Partial Dentures
A partial denture is a removable prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is an important step in developing an attractive smile and restoring function to where missing teeth once were.
When teeth are missing, a persons bite can be affected making chewing difficult or uncomfortable. There is also a tendency for adjacent teeth to drift into the space left by the mission tooth. More problems will develop when this happens. Missing teeth can impair your speech as well as create other tooth issues. It is extremely important to see your dentist for x-rays and approval for a partial denture as the remaining teeth need to be strong enough to withstand the forces of a partial denture. All restorations need to be done by the dentist prior to impressions.
Cast Partial
Cast Partial Dentures are made out of Chromium Cobalt. A metal framework that’s designed to accurately fit around your natural teeth and gums.
Duraflex Partial
These partials have no metal and are made of thermoplastic material The material engages the abutment teeth for retention and flexes into place. For patients that do not want metal in their mouth or have sensitive teeth, then this would be a good option.
Flippers
This is a common name for a one tooth partial that replaces one or more front teeth. It is more of a temporary solution while the patient waits for a more permanent solution.
The reason for their name is because if you bite with it in the front, it normally will flip out of place.
